The Why

I know the big question about why we have decided to leave our big house and spend so much time in a trailer is just that WHY? Well it seems the answer is simple, well maybe a little bit simple.
1. FAMILY - We only have a short time with our family together before the kids fly off into there own adventures and we want to make the most of it. Living in a tiny home is a sure fire way to get to spend time together. It’s kind of a condensed version of living, literally. Due to not being away from each other there is more time to build relationships, hang out, teach social skills and life lessons. It’s as I call it “condensed parenting”.
2. SCHOOL - We had begun homeschooling our kids and when we got the camper it seemed natural to just do school on the road. With both Mom and Dad involved in schooling we get to teach some of what exites us and also to take the kids to the places we are studying. We have done this both ways through camping and hotels, and it is way smoother when we are camping and more will definitely be more sustainable. Our family had already started homeschooling so it wasn’t really part of the decision why but more of what is making the journey possible.
3. LIFE - When we go back and forth from camping to being back at our house its easy to see which is easier. Now traveling as a couple with 3 kids a 80lb dog in a small space is not easy I would say either but simpler in a few ways. We still have to deal with all the parenting, playground drama, sibling quarrels and just everyday living but we are doing it all together. Maybe life is easier when you have a partner and when we get to work together as mom and dad and not just take turns when we do at home life is better. Not to mention you can clean the whole house in 15 minutes, we are outside more, and our electronic devices don’t get as much time as they do in the city either. So even though life is harder, more complicated, and with no personal space, it ends up being simpler, easier, and we get to all be together all the time too! I will say that the one thing we miss when we are gone is friends and family. It has been great that our families have met us on our travels a few times and I hope we can do more of this. We have also camped with our friends or stayed places where they could get a cabin. So much fun to have the kids friends come to play on the road. We have even made new friends in other states that we have visited.
4. ADVENTURE - We love to be outside! So we were already camping and spending a ton of our time outside it just made sense to put it all together and go see more. We were super blessed by our parents that took us exploring in nature whether that was sailing, traveling, camping, or just being brought along on work trips we have been so fortunate to have parents and our kids have grandparents that taught us about God and Creation. So we wanted that same chance to take our kids on grand adventures. I hope and pray that they will truly feel the sense of adventure of seeing more of what God made.
