The Airstream

So the question seems to keep coming up, "Why did we choose the airstream? and Is it the best fit for our family?" Well I thought I would write a little and try to answer these questions.
One thing I didn't see coming was the fact that when RV'ing you look at others rigs a lot. I mean sometimes you are parked really close to each other and the outside of the rig is just staring right back at you. Most of the time we are in parks with space, but we still go walk around. Its fun to think about coming back and dream of which campsite offers the best views, most level parking, and log all this info in that dream catalog somewhere stored deep in our brain. Another thing to dream about is which RV you could see yourself in. Seems only natural as a part of an adventurous spirit to dream about what could be. Its in these times though to go back to why we made our decisions and yes access our growing family but run these assessments through the filter of our over all goals. So here are some and I hope it helps me when thinking about the same questions and know the answers still hold up.
1. EXPLORE MORE - We wanted to explore all we could. The airstream offers a lot for the small space of a 30 foot trailer. Because of its small size of only 11 feet tall and 8.5 feet wide we can fit in most national and state parks, park in neighborhoods to visit folks, and make corners and long hauls easier and using less gas. Sometimes when towing I have to remind myself that I have a trailer behind me because it tows so well I don't want to forget.
2. WINDOWS - The windows in the airstream are amazing and we can totally see more of nature which is why we set out on adventures to begin with. Plus back to reason 1 we can get to camping spots with great views because of our small size.
3. AIRSTREAM - Part of choosing the Airstream was well because its an airstream. We had heard of the good construction and lasting value and thought it would be a smart decision to get one over other campers. Now I don't know if its value is holding up better because we have not tried to sell it, but the actual construction of the camper has been good. The things that seem to break all the time are the appliances that airstream didn't make. (A/C, Fridge, Furnace, Water Heater, etc.) Someday I hope to visit the factory to see if this is actually true. Also the Airstream sure does look good rollin' down the road, we like the style of it as well. I would be lying if camping in an airstream did not add ambiance and some old time nostalgia to the experience.
4. COMMUNITY - So we didn't know this when we bought her but when we go camping almost anytime there is another Airstream at the campground we meet them. It seems to be a community of folks that just have an understanding the same as you that they also chose an airstream for whatever reason (most of the time different reasons than us) and that makes us part of a social club or something. I love it! I'm very thankful for others I've met that have helped me solve problems and I hope that I've been able to help as well.
So in conclusion, I guess the biggest reasons for not choosing a bigger rig where simply the airstream is easier to pull, fits in more parks, fits in more parking lots, and we thought it would hold up good for me not knowing much getting started. We wanted to see more of outside so the windows and small size let us do that more often and in more places.
